Founding Engineer

Remote · Full-time

Most products fail because teams build what they think people want instead of what people actually want.

At AskReplicas, we’re building a computational model of human populations: synthetic people grounded in demographics, psychographics, behavioral science, census data, and real-world signals. Instead of fictional personas or opinion polls, we simulate how real populations make decisions.

We believe behavioral simulation will become a standard part of product development. Before launching a feature, pricing change, marketing campaign, or policy, teams should be able to test it against a realistic synthetic population. Building that requires machine learning, agent systems, and behavioral science working together.

The Role

As our Founding Engineer, you’ll build the core simulation engine that powers every replica.

You’ll design the models that determine how replicas reason, remember, make decisions, disagree, and evolve over time. Your work will directly shape how closely our simulated populations match real human behavior.

This is a product engineering role, not research for research’s sake. Everything you build ships. Success is measured by one question:

Do our simulations behave like real people?

You’ll work directly with the founder to define both the technical architecture and research direction.

What You’ll Own

  • Design and build the behavioral simulation engine
  • Develop agent architectures with long-term memory, grounded reasoning, and consistent personas
  • Build hybrid LLM and probabilistic systems that produce statistically reliable populations
  • Create evaluation frameworks to measure behavioral fidelity and detect model drift
  • Own the infrastructure for training, serving, and orchestrating large-scale simulations

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience training, evaluating, and deploying machine learning models in production
  • Experience building agentic or multi-agent systems with orchestration, memory, tool use, and long-running workflows
  • Strong understanding of human behavior, psychometrics, computational social science, or related fields
  • Ability to build reliable systems that perform under production workloads
  • You care more about correctness than impressive demos

A PhD or published research in machine learning, computational social science, or a related field is a plus, but proven execution matters more.

What You’ll Get

  • Meaningful founding equity
  • Direct ownership of the simulation architecture and research roadmap
  • A product with real users and continuous feedback
  • The opportunity to work on one of the hardest problems in applied AI: modeling human behavior at population scale
  • The chance to help build and mentor the engineering team as we grow

How to Apply
